The Ultimate Guide to Health

Preparing for Your LASIK Surgery LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is the most widely performed laser eye surgery for the treatment of nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. And just like any other surgery, this procedure requires patients to be ready for it. If you’re scheduled for LASIK surgery, there are a few guidelines you need to observe. Of course, each case is a bit different, and your surgeon and optometrist will explain everything you need to do during your initial consultation, but these are the main steps in the preparation process: 1.Take time off from work. First things first, get some time away from work. Most patients are able to go back to work in 24 hours after LASIK, but some need up to 4 days to fully recover. Your surgeon will discuss this with you before the treatment so you can make necessary arrangements.

2.Get someone to drive you home.
Getting To The Point – Options
Patients should not drive or even use public transport immediately after treatment, so find someone to take you home. Maybe a friend or family member can pick you up, or better yet, bring along with you to the surgery. 3.Get a helping hand. On surgery day, have someone stay with you at the clinic, not just to get a lift home, but to have some moral support and perhaps some other kind of small help (to assist you in the restroom, for instance). In most cases, you will be allowed to bring one or two people with you. 4.Allow your eyes to rest. If you live quite far from the clinic, it may be wise to check in at a local hotel on the night after your procedure. This is a time to avoid all kinds of stress or any activity where a high level of focus is required. 5.Refrain from drinking alcohol or using alcohol-based products. As alcohol can dry your eyes, you need to avoid it 24 hours prior to and following the surgery. This includes alcohol-based products such as perfume, hair spray, and the like. 6.Avoid make-up. Forget about make-up at least 24 hours before the surgery. Eye make-up in particular can cause issues for the surgeon and your eyes, so make sure your face is completely clean on this day. 7.Stick to comfy, lint-free clothing. Finally, on the day of the surgery, be sure to wear comfortable clothing and avoid anything made from wool or can produce lint. Like make-up, those small fibers can interfere with the energy of the laser. Laser eye surgery provides a lot of benefits and can substantially improve your quality of life. Most people get 20/20 vision after LASIK surgery, though this may vary based on different factors. In any case, the right preparation can increase your chances of getting better results.
